Hotpoint Washing Machine Recall - Update 02/01/2020

Hotpoint Washing Machine – Product Recall

On 17th December, Whirlpool (the parent company of Hotpoint) announced the recall of a limited number of washing machines.  This is to address a potential fire safety risk concerning model WMXTF842.

If you have one of these models, please check the version on the product identification label, which can be found on the inside of the door, as shown.

If the full model number is WMXTF842PUK.M, then your model is one that is potentially affected by the recall and you need to read the advice provided below.

If the model number is WMXTF842PUK without the “.M” at the end, your appliance is not included in the recall and is therefore safe to use.

If you have a potentially affected product, please read the advice below.

Whilst there have been no serious injuries associated with this risk, the following advice has been provided by Whirlpool:

“To avoid all risk associated with the use of affected models, customers should unplug their washing machines and not use them.

If nevertheless customers do use their appliance, they should only use cold water cycles of 20°C or lower as this significantly reduces the risk. This is because the issue is associated with the washing machine’s heating element being activated during washing cycles above 20°C.

Washing at 20°C can be just as effective as a hot wash when it comes to removing stains. We would recommend to pre-treat the stain before washing and then use a biological detergent.”
